RS640 Fixed Rail System Assembly
Read entire instructions prior to assembly
Top Rail Placement:
Locate the Top Rail (A) and place it above your existing chalk board in the desired location. Mark the center using the center hole on the Top Rail. Level the Top Rail and mark the remaining 4 holes. Drill five 5/16” (or appropriate size) holes to accept the five #10 (or appropriate size) anchors (not supplied). Place the Top Rail over the holes and secure to the surface using the five #12 x 1-1/2” (or appropriate size) anchor screws (not supplied).
Top Support Rail Installation:
Locate the Support Rails (without the double-faced tape) and the two Mounting Arms (C). Align the Support Rail to the desired hole in the Mounting Arms (see illustration). Be sure the cleat is open at the top so it can slip under the SMART Board bezel. The Mounting Arm has holes drilled in 1” increments so you can raise or lower the board to the desired height. Attach the Support Rail to the Mounting Arm using the four #12 x1/2” self tapping screws.
Bottom Support Rail Installation:
Do not peel the protective paper from the other side of the tape at this time. Align and attach the bottom Support Rail (B) to the Mounting Arm. Allow maximum spacing between the two Support Rails for stability.
Hang the Assembled Mounting Arms and Support Rails on the Top Rail (see illustration). Align the center of the SMART Board on the center of the Top Support Rail, be sure it is seated securely.
If the height of the new board is correct continue to the next step. If you need to adjust the height of the board, remove the white board, take the Mounting Arms/Support Rails down, unscrew the Support Rails and repeat the previous steps.
The next step secures the bottom of the completed Rail assembly to the wall or chalk or whiteboard before the SMART Board is permanently secured to the Rail System. Before securing the Finger Cleat Assembly the projector image must be aligned properly on the SMART Board.
Finger Cleat Installation for Chalkboard Mounting:
If the Finger Cleat Assembly needs to be secured to the existing chalk or white board, clean the surface of the board thoroughly with an alcohol wipe to insure good adhesion. Attach a thin, heavy duty double-faced tape (not supplied) to the bottom side of the Finger Cleat, slide over the Leveling Foot and secure to the surface (see illustration). Repeat on the other side. Mount the cleat (opposing) so that the opening faces each other.
Final Steps:
Place the SMART Board back on the Rail System. Peel the protective paper from the Double-Faced Tape on the bottom Support Rail and with the SMART Board still hanging on the Top Support Rail and press the board firmly against the Bottom Support Rail to secure. The tape takes 24 hours to set up and cure properly. Do not attempt to remove the tape.
RS670 Fixed Rail System Assembly
Read entire instructions prior to assembly
Top Rail Placement:
Locate the Top Rail (D) and place it above your existing chalk board in the desired location.
Locate one of the Support Rail (E) (without the double-faced tape attached) and the two Mounting Arms (F). Align the Support Rail to the desired hole in the Mounting Arms (see illustration). Be sure the cleat is open at the top so it can slip under the SMART Board bezel. The Mounting Arm has holes drilled in 1” increments so you can raise or lower the board to the desired height. Attach the Support Rail to the Mounting Arm using the four #12 1/2” self tapping screws. At either end of the top Support Rail are tabs that must be opened to allow the cleats on the top of the SMART Board bezel to slip into the Support Rail.
Bottom Support Rail Installation (traditional procedure):
Do not peel the protective paper from the other side of the tape at this time. Attach the bottom Support Rail using the wing nuts and slide to desired location. Allow maximum spacing between the two Support Rails for stability.
Optional Bottom Rail Installation (new procedure):
The bottom Support Rail comes with the double-faced tape already attached. Do not peel the protective paper off of this tape for this procedure.
Reverse the direction of the bottom Support Rail so the cleat is facing downward. Secure the bottom Support Rail to the Mounting Arms but do not tighten the wing nuts.
At either end of the bottom Support Rail are tabs that must be opened to allow the cleat to slip into the SMART Board bezel. Hang the Assembled Mounting Arms and Support Rails on the Top Rail (see illustration). Align the center of the SMART Board on the center of the upper Support Rail. Be sure it is seated securely on the top Support Rail.
Slide the bottom Support Rail downward into the SMART Board bezel. Be sure it is snug into the bezel before tightening the wing nuts.
If the height of the new board is correct continue to the next step. If you need to adjust the height of the board, remove the white board, take the Mounting Arms/Support Rails down, unscrew the Top Support Rail and slide the bottom Support Rail to the desired location and repeat the previous steps.
Finger Cleat Installation for Wall Mounting:
This step secures the bottom of the completed Rail assembly to the wall.
Remove the SMART Board without shifting the position of the Rail System. Slide the Finger Cleat Assembly (G) around the Leveling Foot and mark the mounting hole position for a wall mount. Do the same for the other Mounting Arm. Using the appropriate wall anchor and screw, secure the Finger Cleat Assembly to the wall on both sides.
Final Steps (traditional procedure):
If you are using the traditional procedure of mounting the bottom Support Rail with double-faced tape, peel the protective paper from the Double-Faced Tape on the bottom Support Rail and with the SMART Board still hanging on the Top Support Rail and press the board firmly against the Bottom Support Rail to secure. The tape takes 24 hours to set up and cure properly. Do not attempt to remove the tape.
Final Steps (new procedure):
Place the SMART Board back on the top Support Rail and secure. Slip the bottom Support Rail into the bottom bezel of the SMART Board, and secure with the wing nuts.
*Top Rail Security Plate (optional): available Fall ‘09
This step provides additional stability to your wall mount by preventing someone from lifting the SMART Board off of the Top Rail. If installed, this plate MUST be removed before the SMART Board can be taken off the Fixed Rail System.
*Top Rail Security Plate Installation
Drill a pilot hole in the center of the underside of each Mounting Arm. Use a #12 ½” self tapping screw to secure the Top Rail Security Plate so it rests against the Top Rail lower lip.
SMART SBXXXi Projector Mounting System Installation (PMK-UF55)
IMPORTANT: Read these instructions completely before you mount the RS670 Fixed Rail System.
The PMK-UF55 is compatible with all SMART SBXXXi systems. It is designed to match the offset created by the RS670 Fixed Rail System.
The mounting system consists of two 15” long 2-7/16” 12 gauge steel struts with strut end caps, five carbon steel, electro-galvanized MQM-F ¼ wing nuts, five 2” ¼ x20 bolts and one melamine mounting plate 15”Hx10-3/4”Wx3/4”, pre-drilled to match the SMART G3 Mounting (D) (see illustration)
PMK-UF55 Projector Mounting System Installation
Hang the Fixed Rail System first. Mount the bottom of one of the struts to the wall with the appropriate anchors flush to the top of the Top Rail (see illustration below). Measure 8” up and secure the other strut parallel to the bottom strut.
Place three of the five 2” ¼ x20 bolts into holes in the top of the melamine plate (3 holes at the top, 2 at the bottom). Position three of the electro-galvanized MQM-F ¼ wing nuts (supplied) in the top strut and align with the three bolts. Thread the bolts until they grab the strut, do not tighten at this time. Place the two remaining 2” ¼ x20 bolts into holes in the bottom of the melamine plate. Align these bolts with the wing nuts in the bottom strut.
Remove the bottom bolts and mount the SMART Projector Mounting Plate over the melamine plate and drop in place. Use holes 1, 3 and 5 located to the top of the SMART Mounting Plate. Place the bottom bolts through both plates into the strut and secure. Secure the top bolts. Mount projection system as per manufacturer’s instructions.
Aligning the projector and the SMART Board to get the proper distance from the top of the SMART Board to the bottom of the projector, mount the Top Support Rail of the RS670 in holes 3 and 4 from the top of the Mounting Arms.
Disclaimer: In order to get the projector and board aligned properly you may have to shift the Fixed Rail System’s Support Rail positions.
